The Granite Building, on the corner of St. Paul and East Main Street in Downtown Rochester, NY.
Designed in 1893 by J. Foster Warner, and built for the Sibley, Lindsay & Curr Company, the 12-story Second Renaissance Revival Granite Building was Rochester's first skeletal steel skyscraper. In 1904, it was one of the few structures to survive the 40-hour, infamous "Sibley Fire," (considered to be Rochester's worst fire) that tragically burned down the three blocks from St. Paul Street up to Clinton Avenue.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 11, 1984.
This view would have been seen from the 6th floor of the old Keeler-Kimball Estate Building (Old Chamber of Commerce building.)
Present-day view would be from the Joseph A. Floreano Riverside Convention Center, click here.
