Designed by Leffert Buck, the 858-foot long, Platt Street truss bridge was constructed in 1891. Initially a transport bridge connected both industrial sides of the High Falls, it closed permanently in 1977 after triesome efforts to maintain it. The current Pont de Rennes pedestrian bridge replaced it in1982, honoring Rochester’s sister city of Rennes, France.
