Originally the site of the Scrantom Family cabin, in 1818, it was converted to a two-story tavern, called the "Ensworth Hotel." In 1829, it was torn down to make way for the Eagle Hotel. After years of changing ownership, it was sold to Daniel Powers, who bought the block in 1863 an had it razed in 1868. The 300-room, "fire-proof"  Powers Hotel was constructed in 1883. It currently stands and serves as an multi-office building, referenced to as "The Executive Office Building."

Notice the removal of the main entrance (to the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office), the window canopies and the decorative railing along the roof edge.

Present-day view would be from The Monroe Building on West Main Street West (Buffalo Rd), click here.
