Notable landmarks include (from left to right, just out of view): Monroe County Clerk’s Downtown Office, the newly-renovated Academy Building)

The old Rochester Savings Bank building, formally located on the corner of Fitzhught and West Main Street, in Downtown Rochester, NY.

Circa 1904.

Originally built in 1857 as a 3-story building, the addition of the top floor, lanterns, clocks and griffin gargoyles were completed by 1887. A year later, the top story would serve as the first Rochester Chamber of Commerce headquarters until 1895 (when the C of C moved to the Keeler-Kimball Estate building).

The building was razed in 1955 and replaced by the current Monroe Building (Rochester office of Stewart Title). The clocks read 10:36am.

Present-day view would be from Main Street West (Buffalo Rd) , click here.
